A WELL OF HOPE
CONTEXT
The availability of water varies according to the seasons – dry or humid – in the Lakes State region, in South Sudan. Drinking water is scarce throughout the year and is a constant problem as well as a source of conflict.
On the territory there are only few infrastructures to access the water. Many families in the more peripheral areas have to send someone to the nearest well, which can also be several kilometers from home. A distance traveled on foot, which usually affects young women and girls.
The female school of Loreto, located near Rumbek in the community of Make Kuei is trying to respond to the water need expressed by local families.
OUR GOALS
- Improve access to water for the Maker Kuei community in Rumbek
- Install 3 new manual pump wells that will be used for irrigation, health and hygiene
We want girls to no longer be forced to face heavy journeys on foot in order to have access to such a fundamental and human need as water. Over 1000 people from the Maker Kuei community will benefit from the project.
